Chimchar is one of the 29 partners the personality quiz can hand you on a new save. It is a Fire Pokémon from Sinnoh, and it starts the first run with Ember. You can refuse the quiz result and pick any other starter.
Personality match: Playful + Cheerful. The quiz weights the first trait twice when it picks a partner. You can still choose Chimchar by hand from the starter board.
